I just upgraded to 10.5. Immediately upon launch it did the software update and I'm now running 10.5.3. Trouble is, I downloaded Safari from Apple's website but it won't install... says the OS must be at least 10.5.2. I must be missing something here.

What version of Safari do you have in your Applications folder?
Leopard installs the correct version of Safari. Why did you need to download the Safari update separately? Just for info, I have often struggled to get the separate Safari download to install properly, but the software update always gets it right. Safari 3 is one of the few updates that I have seen in several years that often works better through the Software Update.
Let me know what you find out...

Sorry, I forgot to mention that when I tried to run Safari in the Applications folder (v3.11) I got "You cannot use this version of Safari with this version of Mac OSX". That's why I downloaded the version from the Apple website. I took a screenshot of the Safari info and the error message but I can't seem to attach it to this email.

Did you move Safari to another location on your hard drive (and not in your Applications folder)? Most Apple apps will not update successfully, if you have moved it out of the original location.
Delete that older Tiger version of Safari 3, and reinstall from your Leopard installer disk. You can download Pacifist to get just Safari from the installer disk.

I took your advice and downloaded Pacifist. After deleting Safari 3.11 from the apps folder I extracted Safari from the install disc. Voilá it works. Odd though. The version I now have is called 3.04 which, if my math is correct, should be an OLDER one than 3.11. Well, I suppose as long as it works!
Thank you.

If you run your Software Update, you should then get the newer version - which is the 3.1.1 version that you were trying to install. Or, you should now find that new version will install.
The other (better) choice, is to download the 10.5.3 combined updater, and install that. It will install on top of the 10.5.3 that you have now, and should result in that newer version. Here's the link to the 10.5.3 combined updater.
