I had a bookmark folder (with lots of bookmarks) in my bookmarks bar. I just went to expand it and accidentally pulled it off of the bar. I can't find the file of bookmarks anywhere. I tried restoring the Bookmarks.plist, but it is still not there. Is it completely gone? Am I looking in the wrong place?

I have not quit Safari in hopes that I can restore it.

Thanks,
Bridget

Hi Bridget

Unfortunately, it's gone.
When you drag a bookmark folder off the Bookmarks bar, you should have seen a dialog box asking if you want to delete. If you click yes, it's gone. No way to retrieve it unless you had a backup.

Hi,

Thanks. What a bummer. It seems strange that it does not reside in a folder somewhere.

I did not get any dialog box, but maybe because when I realized it was happening I tried to just keep my mouse on it and put it back Wishful thinking.

Thanks,

Bridget

Wow, I just found it. Apparently when I tried to place it back it copied into another folder, but when I searched via Spotlight and 'Find' I must have only looked on computer and it didn't find it.

What is the easiest way to make a back up of my bookmarks? Also, how exactly does the Bookmarks.plist work? Does it automatically update everytime you move, add or delete bookmarks?

Thanks,
Bridget

Here's a tip, I just tried it.

If you accidentally delete a folder or url from the Bookmark Bar, immediately press Command + Z and it will come right back.

Thank you. I will do that.

Can you see all responses I get on here? Someone also wrote in that if you hit Comm. z immediately it will undo. I didn't think to try that initially.

Bridget
