Safari can't open the page "http://remote.halw.com" because it could not establish a secure connection to the server "remote.halw.com"
I can access this webpage with every other laptop and pc also create a guest account on my Macbook pro and with that guest account I have no problem accessing this website too.
I have bene to a genius in an apple store, but he hd never seen this before either.
I have used the reset facility in Safari, eliminated the libraries for safari.
I was able to access this webpage before, but I expect that I have clicked the wrong button somewhere and I somehow I cannot reset it.
Resetting Safari is not "deep" enough.
I think the only other solution would be to trash safari and load it fresh and new again, but before i do that I would like one more attempt to solve it.
Do you have any suggestions?
Arjen

Just to add information:
I also deleted the keychain, all software is up to date and it is the ONLY website this Safari has a problem with. No other website issues and no other safari has this issue either, so it is really only with this Safari.
That rules out any certifiacte problems, but it tells me I need to completely re-start, deep clean Safari, to erase any resident settings somewhere...

Today I also removed Safari, in the trash and reinstalled MAC OS X Leopard. I chose the option of archiving and that was probably not the best option.
When all was done, Safari again was doing everything correctly, except for the website remote.halw.com and gave the same error message.
That confirmed to me that it is a setting somewhere.
I appreciate your assistance and suggestions

What is this site suppose to do? Do you know what type of server it is hosted on?
Nightnavigator - Feb 28, 2008 - 8:04 pm
This site gives access to the company I work for. I don't know what type of server.
RAMPCHECK - Feb 28, 2008 - 8:11 pm
If there is a way to talk to the server admin it would be helpful.
Usually sites like this require something like citrix or some other VPN software.

Thank you for the suggestion, but please read the first line of the question: I can access the website with every other webbrowser, including Safari in the guest account. (or safari in the apple store)
Therefore it has nothing to do with the server or the website itself.
The problem is REALLY in Safari or the settings in my laptop, especially since I can access the website with my guest account.

OK I think I see whats going on here.
Holland america's RSA certificate expired in 2004, when you logged into it the first time it stored the cert in the keychain. Since the keychain holds the cert strictly to what it says it will fail to log in.
Try taking the keychain out of your home/library/keychains folder and log out or restart. Just put the keychain on the desktop, dont throw it away.
then try it

Dear Rampcheck,
Tried it three times and I just now tried it again, but no change in behavior. Would have surprised me, as if that would be true, then my iPhone Safari nor my guest account Safari would be able to log in either.
It should open another window asking if I trust the cert. It used to do that until I "told" Safari to trust it, hoping that would be the magic bullet.
But unfortunately not.

so removing the user keychain did not resolve it after logging out and back in?

Nope, did not resolve the problem.

Disappointed about this forum, I have "solved" the issue by reformatting the HDD and re-installing the entire HDD again.
And everything is working now as it is supposed to do.
No certificate issues, keychain removals or such issues.
I have no idea what happened to cause the problem, but we will never know now.
There is nobody to thank for the assistance.
