I have a new iMac OS X version 10.4.8 and am using Safari 2.0.4 with a HP PSC 2210 all-in-one. Our problem is that while we can print Word documents without problems when we go to print from a web page with Safari the printer shoots out a blank page and then shoots out a page with about a 1/3 of the text from the web page and then shoots out another with the remaining text. How do I get this fixed?

When did this start happening? Have you never been able to print properly from Safari? Is Page Setup set properly in Safari?

We just got the iMac about 10 days ago and we have never successfully printed from Safari. When I go to Page setup, everything looks right and in fact the print preview gives us a perfectly normal looking view but no matter how we print, from Safari or from Preview, we get a blank page, then some of the text on one page and some on the other. Some of the frames of the web page do not print at all. When I turn on the address option to print the web address and date of accession, that will show up in the print preview but it does not print. What do you recommend?

I haven't seen this behavior before. Is there another printer you can print to? That would help you determine whether the issue is with the printer or the software. Sometimes minor glitches like this can be fixed by reinstalling the latest
combo update for Mac OS X. You might also try repairing permissions using Disk Utility, which you should do anyway after using Software Update or otherwise installing new software that uses the Installer application.
Other than that, I have no ideas and will reopen your question.

Thanks but I have four questions:
First, you had asked if I had set up the Page Set-up properly in Safari? How can I tell if I have? What should I look for?
Second, I do have another printer that I use with a different computer. I'll have to install the driver etc and that's why I want to make sure I have the Page Set-up set up properly first.
Third, given what I wrote above, should I try the combo update first before hassling with the second printer?
Fourth, I don't understand what you are saying about Disk Utility and the permissions. Can you explain that further?--Bob

1. If you have never changed the settings in Page Setup for Safari, then there should be nothing wrong there. I was considering a change in paper size might cause your symptoms.
2. I'm still curious whether the alternate printer will behave differently. If it works properly, then you should make sure you have the most recent driver installed for your preferred printer. Then, delete and re-add it in Printer Setup Utility.
3. Trying the other printer will probably be simpler than reinstalling the update. But if you update first, of course you'll test before trying the printer.
4. Disk Utility is in your Utilities folder in Applications. Open it, select your hard disk (Macintosh HD), and click Repair Disk Permissions.

I need more time. I need to find the driver the alternative printer that I have. I may have the disk at work. I'll know for sure tomorrow.--Bob

What make/model printer is it?

I installed the Hewlett Packard PSC 3940 this a.m. and it would not print at all from any software. To make matters worse I could no longer print at all from the other printer.
What do you recommend first given this development?

Hmm. Did you end up fetching the driver disc from work? Did you install the latest driver, as also available
online? To return at least to your previous predicament, try deleting both printers from Printer Setup Utility and then re-adding one or both. Did you ever repair permissions or install the update?
I'm out of ideas at this point.

I need more time. I used the driver disk that came with the printer. I have not gone on line to use a newer driver. I will go through all of the other steps including:
*deleting both printers from Printer Setup Utility and then readding one or both (using new drivers available on line)
*repairing permissions ("You might also try repairing permissions using Disk Utility, which you should do anyway after using Software Update or otherwise installing new software that uses the Installer application")
*installing update ("Sometimes minor glitches like this can be fixed by reinstalling the latest combo update for Mac OS X")

The printer HP 2210 now appears to be working. I don't know exactly why because the only thing that I did was make sure the page set up worked and then add the second printer which didn't work. I never did install new drivers, or do the combo update or repair permissions. I'll keep these in mind though if the others report problems.

Checking for new drivers, at least, is still not a bad idea. However, I'm glad to hear its working for now. Sometimes these things just need a rest.
