First of all, thank you for creating this support site.
I am on G-3 , osx 10.2.8.
when I try to access safari preferences ( to clear cookies), Safari quits. I "reset" Safari to clear cookies, but it clears all cookies, and I would like to be able to clear only some.
I will be grateful for your help in resolving this.
thank you

Hello
if you reset Safari all cookies and history and so on is cleared. that's the way it goes. if safari quits unexpectatly try to delete the preference "com.apple.Safari.plist" in your acount -> library -> preferences. It will be rebuild upon startup of Safari.
then go Safari -> preferences (or apple + ,) security -> show cookies -> and delete the cookie you want.
Hope that works.

Hello cu al
thank you for taking your time to help me. I followed your suggestion and deleted com.apple.Safari.plist.
it rebuilt itself as you said, unfortunately, safari still quits when I go to it's preferences.
If you have any other ideas, would you let me, please, know ?
thanks again

Did you try to delete Safari and reinstall?
or
Clear SAFARI CACHE in Safari menu.
Repair disk permissions (applications-> utilities -> disk utilities)
Clear Finder and System Caches with Cocktail (
http://www.macosxcocktail.com/)
delete com.apple.Safari.plist and Basia/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist (all cookies deleted, I know it's not what you really want)
always reboot. don't know if that helps. Could depend also on amount of RAM. Hope your HD is not full.
Bad quicktime settings? trash com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist (in the preferences)
make new user account and check if same problem exists there too.
maybe your bookmarklist is responsible. you can manage them externaly e.g.
http://www.url-manager.com/
Running out of ideas... Install Firefox ;-)
guess trash safari and reinstall (trash also all the com.apple...files connected with safari see above) and restart.

Thanks Alex for all the tips.
What I did:
- deleted Safari and reinstalled
- Cleared SAFARI CACHE in Safari menu
-Repaired disk permissions
-Cleared System Caches with Cocktail (not finder- I could not find “clear finder” option you suggested)
-rebooted with apple/option/p/r
-my HD is not full, 5gb left.
- trashed com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist (in the preferences)
-trashed all bookmarks (thanks for
http://www.url-manager.com/ , i could put my 755 bookmarks back- awesome tool)
Firefox is more and more tempting, I do love the safari’s interface though. I back up with IE, but , you know...it is just not elegant

and freezes too much.
one more info, perhaps it will be crucial in diagnosis:
flash did not and still doesn’t work on safari either (works on IE). I trashed and reinstalled flash- still doesn’t work.
another application that was quitting on accessing preferences was Mail- I trashed it, too.
are you still interested in this puzzle? I am ready to capitulate, on the other hand.... my curiosity is on a high gear now. I do have a history, somehow, to do things on my computer that seem impossibly wrong

thanx again

Ever thought about "Tiger"? :-) The jump from 10.2. to 10.3 was terrific. I know it's not funny to solve problems with an upgrade, but 10.2. is "old" looking at the features 10.4 has now (but I loved it too at the time it came out).
Well. No more suggestions. Did you try with a new user account?
I tell you, their alive...
