Dear,
I own a Powerbook G4, 1GHz, 1.25 GB ram running 10.5.2
I just bought a Samsung SCX 4200 multipurpose printer. It comes with a printer driver and a TWAIN driver for the scanner. Printer works fine but scanner does not. It does photocopy though.
When I use an application running a TWAIN scanner (image capture or ReadIris), the process starts, but is interrupted in the middle with an error message: asking me to restart the application and the scanner. I've done this several times, as well as I have downloaded the last drivers from Samsung Website. I've contacted Samsung to no avail and have looked around in the Web for an answer. This is how I found about your site.
Can you help me?
regards
Pierre

Did you try the Samsung web site? there is a scanner driver, and a printer driver available for OS X. Both were just updated 2-2-2008.

Even a brand new printer will often have updated software at the web site.

Thank you Dale,
I'm very impressed by the speed of your response.
Yes, I have downloaded the driver. It is actually dated february 1st, 2008. The funny thing is that, if you go to the Samsung website, you'll see now that the driver is supposed to have been updated yesterday! Actually it is the same version as the one that is provided with the printer, which is dated november, 2007.....
This said, I'm still in the same situation: the scan starts apparently normally but does not finish. I've made a trial on a macbook pro (i.e. intel based) and the result is the same.
Any more suggestion? on my side, I'm still trying to contact Samsung.
best
Pierre

I see what you mean.
Looks like Samsung shows updated dates every day, when the software actually does not change.
Did you install that download for the Twain drivers? Even though the date does not appear to be different, the software could still be updated.
Many scanners are recognized through Image Capture, and can be used for many purposes. Can you scan through your Image Capture app?

I did install the new driver - actually I tried downloads from different parts (Samsung US, Samsung Europe). All got the same results.
The same happens with image capture: the scanner is recognised, the scan starts and then, half way down the page i get an error message asking me to restart both the application and the scanner

The scanner may not be compatible with Leopard (or the 10.5.2 update, which affects many areas in OS X)
You may want to check if new updates (either for the scanner, or for OS X) affect this issue. Or, maybe you just bought a lemon, that is not going to operate fully for you on the Mac. If you don't get anywhere with Samsung on this, and you really want the scanner to work, you might take it back to the store, and exchange, either for an identical model, or one from another company known to work well with the Mac, such as HP or Epson.
That's about all I can offer for suggestions.

thanks anyway for your help. I'll pursue it on Samsung's side and let you know if I discover something
