When i fomat a file using a Pages template and try to save it as either a HTML file or a Word file the formating is lost and the graphic and text are misplaced on the page. Is this a common problem? Is there a solution for this?
I am a experienced Mac user but am not a techi. I am using an Imac with OSX 10.3.9
The suggestion from Mac does not really answer the problem. If I use their templates and design a newsletter that I want to mount on the web or even if I just save their template, the graphics are placed randomly on the page. As far as I know the html format does not allow me to change margins or type. In the word format, this can be done but the graphics and text are so randomly placed that it is quicker to design a new file.
Just saving their template in either form causes the same problem.
I did some checking elsewhere and apparently the problem you are having isn't unique. From what I can gather it's just simply that the HTML exporting from Pages isn't up to the task of dealing with complex documents with layered components such as newsletters and mixed media.
Although I didn't check further, I suppose the same or similar problems exist for the Word export as well.
I'm not sure what to suggest to you. I don't do a lot of HTML. I have a website, but it isn't very fancy nor does it change much. I do most of my HTML using a freeware program called NVU (
www.versiontracker.com.) It's WYSIWYG and has online editing and FTP uploading ability to make editing an existing page pretty easy.
As for exporting to Word, I actually use Word so it isn't a problem. Although I own Pages and Keynote I doubt I would use either with the idea of exporting the product to Word, when I can work in Word from the start.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Steven thanks for trying. I came to the same conclusion but I hoped I was missing something.
