Description:
As a new grandfather I would like to scan photos and send them to friends via email. I use Eudora lite. Sadly these folk have PCs!!
So far when I scan I have saved in TIFF and have been left with a HUGE image file to transmit. They also couldn't open it.
A friend sent me an image attached to an email. It was only 86k vs the 5.5MB one I created and it opened like a dream.
Clearly I am doing something wrong. Can you point me in the right direction to a) scan efficiently and save as a small-sized file and
b) save in such a way that PC lovers (at least owners) can see the stuff.

Hi Michael and welcome to No Wonder!
TIFF images are very big because they contain so much detail.
You need to send it in a internet friendly format - either JPEG or GIF.
These formats will reduce the size of the image by over a tenth without a depremental affect on the quality.
Download the program called GraphicConverter to convert the images to GIF or JPEG, get the software from here
http://www.lemkesoft.de
You will also have to convert the image to format so that it can be sent and then read by a PC, after you have converted the image to JPEG or GIF.
Use either uuencode or base 64 format.
You should have an option to change the format in Eudora - I think it is a small pop-up icon on the message itself which allows you to alter the formatting.
