Computer Type: Apple
Model: Mac 580
RAM: 32meg

OS Version: System 7.5.1

Description:
Four times a year I need to transfer word processing files by email with PC users. I use Eudora light. My files are in ClarisWorks 4.0. I have updated MacLink translators but when I use them to translate to MS Word for Windows, the recipients say the messages arrive garbled. This is the solution that I have come up with: (BTW, these files are about 2000 to 2500 words, text only). Using Claris, I save the files as text, copy and paste them in the body of the email messages, and send them. This works 9/10s of the time. When I do the same thing (save as text and attach as files), the recipients say they arrive garbled. They, the recipients, say something about bin hex, which I notice is a botton on Eudora light.

Though this works, I would like to find a better solution. These are files that I have edited and little things, such as spacing and punctuation really matter, and I'm not sure that "text" is as precise as I need. I only work with this client 4 times a year, and I need a process that is simple and easy to remember. They send the files to me on a disk, as text files.

I'm sure that their must be some sure and easy way to communicate with PC users over email.

Thanks for your answer.

Hi there Susan - Welcome to No Wonder Mac Support )

If you do not really mind about the formatting (bold, italics, etc.) of the text, then you can use ClarisWorks to "Save As..." TEXT and then use a utility that will ZIP (the PC version of compressing) the file - this way it should get to them without any problems and they (the PC users) can unzip the files into text files.

One such program for the Mac that will zip the file is ZipIt 1.3.8 and can be found at:

Hope this has helped you - please let me know if it worked.

Thanks for using No Wonder.
