This is quite a strange problem that has cropped up in the last week.

I have a dead area in the lower left hand portion of my screen about 2 inches wide by 1.5 inches tall. It's about a half inch above the smiley Finder icon in my dock. I can't drag a folder from another location on the desktop to that position. If my Firefox browser window has a button there, it doesn't click. If I move the window over it works fine. It is just an area that no longer allows UI.

My system:

--OS 10.3.8
--G4 Digital Audio w/1.2 Ghz processor, 1GB RAM
--Black Apple keyboard (plugged into my 17" Apple Studio Display CRT)
--Logitech MX310 mouse with latest driver (plugged into the keyboard)

I've had this problem since Sunday night, and I've tried:

Running OnyX: Repaired permissions, optimized drive, cleared caches (system and internet), and deleted _DS Store files.

Downloaded and installed the latest mouse driver from Logitech.

Restarting.

I'm pretty stumped and this is my last hope tht someone will have experienced this and maybe know whats wrong.

Here is a 1Mb Quicktime video of me trying to move a folder to the dead area:

Thanks for any and all help

waveturtle@yaho,

try clicking in the desktop area, go to "View" in the menu and choose "Show View Options" from the drop down menu. Uncheck the "Snap to grid" box in this window. Did that solve your problem?

Thank you for the quick reply and help.

I don't have snap to grid checked in my desktop view options. I downloaded and ran Cocktail and the problem seems to have vanished for now...Still very weird to me. I have an Expose' setting for that corner I'm wondering if that might be connnected.

Thank you again for the help.
