Our corporation has recently bought 3 new iMac computers.
They all have the same problem.

Screensaver alone works fine, the problem is, that when I want to use hot corner feature, to lock my computer, screensaver doesn't start. Other features for the hot corner work fine such as Dashboard. The only one not working is Start Screen Saver. My sleep settings for the screen are 30 mins, while screensaver starts in 20 mins.
I tried to find any help using Google, found only
http://macosx.com/tech-support/scree...10-4/1275.html this ticket but it's not exactly my problem.

Thank you very much for your responce!

I use Active directory system. Using it for logging into the domain which resides on windows 2003 server. So, my username and password are retrieved from the AD.

Michael,

Did this problem happen after you installed something, or did it always happen?

You can add additional information in the submit response. Exactly what OS version is on those machine?

The OS version is 10.4.8. Yes, it does start from the beginning.

Michael,

The first thing to check is the Dashboard & Expose panel in System Preferences. Make sure you have Start Screen Saver and Disable Screen Saver set to the correct corners.

Now in Energy Saver check the settings for putting the computer to sleep. Set that to never. Move the Screen goes to sleep to 45 minutes. In Options, uncheck all the boxes.

In Desktop & Screen Saver set it to start in 15 minutes.

Now give it a test try. Let me know how you do.

Michael,

The next step is to do a re-install of the update. First go to the Hard Drive>Library>Receipts. (this is the Library folder sitting on your hard drive by itself).
Locate and trash any MacOSXUpd files.

Now go to the web site below and download and install the combo update
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...ientintel.html

Once done, go to Disk Utility in the Utilities folder and run Repair Permissions.

Now give it a try. Keep me posted.

Thank you for helping me, Cheryl. I am sorry, I was not been able to test your last post, had to stay in hospital.

I tried it today, still the same result(screensaver doesn't start). I tried different corners, doesn't work. If it is just the Expose function it works, but not with a screensaver.
I also noticed that the screensaver doesn't start itself either. I put it for 3 minutes to start, didn't work.
Maybe I should reinstall the whole system?

But it's weird it's happening on all three iMacs.

Again, thank you for helping me!

I think I figured out where is the problem, but I still don't understand why it preventing screensaver from running.

What I do, I need to connect iMac to an active diretory domain and add shared drives to my finder window. So I created a script and I am running it right after login.

So, I
copy login_m.sh from IT/Mac to /Library/Scripts
then in terminal:
sudo su -
cd /Library/Scripts
chown root login_m.sh
defaults write com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook /Library/Scripts/login_m.sh
copy file Mounter.Scpt to /Library/Scripts.

here is my login_m.sh file:

#!/bin/sh

/usr/bin/osascript /Library/Scripts/Mounter.scpt $1

here is my Mounter.scpt file:

on run argv

set user_name to item 1 of argv

tell application "Finder"

try

mount volume "smb://" & user_name & "@cisn2003/BSDVOL"

end try

try

mount volume "smb://" & user_name & "@cisn2003/Common"

end try

try

mount volume "smb://" & user_name & "@cisn2003/Company"

end try

try

mount volume "smb://" & user_name & "@cisn2003/Company2"

end try

try

mount volume "smb://" & user_name & "@cisn2003/Scanner"

end try

try

mount volume "smb://" & user_name & "@cisn2003/" & user_name & "$"

end try

end tell

end run

After doing this, no screensaver.
If I remove the script screensaver and hot corners work.
But I would really need to bind the volumes from active directory.

Hope this issue can be resolved.

Michael,

I think I know what is happening. The system is detecting activity and Screensaver is not going on.

Go to System Preferences (lightswitch in dock) and select Energy Saver.
Click on Options and uncheck all the boxes.
Close System Preferences and give it a test.
