Hi there,
I am looking for suggestions for how to set up a mac as PVR in a corporate situation where we have a two dish network satellite TV drops and boxes. The issue I see is most digital tv cards or firewire boxes that include tuners do not have an ir interface with the satellite boxes as tivos or replay do....
project goals:
Have a channel guide so recordings from multiple stations at different times can be made ahead of time and saved as mpeg 2 or 4 for later editing and playback.
Anyone out there have suggestions on hardware that can do channel tuning or has and IR interface compatible with dish network? Please let me know....
thanks
Are you not looking for an eyeTV product from Elgato?:

I did look through the elgato systems but unfortunately they all seem to use internal cable tuners and do not have IR interfaces for controlling non cable sources like satellite or direct tv boxes. The eye tv 200 manual actually explicitly says that the person needs to change the channel manually and that it can only do the a to d work
Thanks though if you do come up with something else please let me know...
What about the EyeTV 300/310 systems, which are designed specifically for satellite reception and don't require an external receiver.

Perhaps a call to Elgato Systems would also be worth your while.

That might be it but I don't see if it can connect with dish networks satellite network (card required) and it also looks like it is designed for european/international markets not for US use (power supplies issues)
I am going to give them a call this afternoon.
In the mean time if you have any other suggestions please let me know....
