Hello Rob and Welcome to No Wonder!
It could be an extension conflict. To test that you'll want to disable all extensions except the system 8.1 set, the Global Village set, and whatever's needed for PortJuggler. Then see if you are having the same problem. If not, try adding a few more extensions at a time, until you find the culprit.
If you are still having experiencing freezes even w/ the minimal extensions, you're GV software might be corrupt and you'll want to perform a clean installation.
