Hey there!

I've been wanting to move from Entourage to Mail for some time now. I'd love to, I really would except that there is one major issue that persists. Maybe you can help?

Though I can send mail with no problem, receiving mail is another matter. Where Entourage is 'instant' and 'live', so to speak, Mail rarely accepts any incoming mail. Maybe the odd one or two!!

Test emails never make it back to me...

The odd thing is, if I quit Mail and re-open, the new email will be there. I'd just really like it to be 'live' so that I get my mail when it was sent!!

System:

PowerBook G4
OSX 10.4.7

Skill level: competent.

Hopefully someone can help!

Thanks :-)

Dear NickP83,

My name is Vinko and I will attempt to assist you.

Can we please walk through your accounts settings within Apple Mail? We will do one account as an example and the rest should be similar.

Please choose one of your POP account or IMAP account for this exercise.

BTW: may I presume that you are using your Mac within a local network that is connect to the Internet via a service provider (ISP)?

For this exercise, you will need to know the following about your POP or IMAP account.
  • Exact Login ID for your mail account
  • Password for your mail account
  • POP or IMAP server's address/name of your mail account provider
  • STMP server's address/name provided by your ISP (not the mail account provider

I will wait for your reply when you have everything.

PS: it may be easier in this particular case if you have a IM (instant messaging) account (ie. ICQ, GMail, Yahoo, MSN, etc.). I will send you mine after you let me know which service you prefer to use.

Regards,

Hello Vinko! I'm Nick (somewhat obviously!!)

Thanks for your help... Given that you're in America, its doubtful that IM'ing each other will work (as I'm in Australia, but I just need to find out my ISP's server address.

As soon as I have, I'll be in touch!

Having said that, if time does work out, my MSN is nickpraulins@internode.on.net
