Description:
Hello,
Here are some more problems, I hope you can solve for me:-))
3. I
have problems with my fax modem, a Global Village Teleport Platinum (28.8)
The modem works fine, it's the fax part that gives me problems...
I have one telephone line for the regular telephone and for my fax and in the manual they
suggest I don't select the automatical way to handle an incoming fax but that I should
receive them manually but for me that's not possible while I'm not always at home.
When the fax is on / ready to receive a fax and I try to answer the telephone, it's almost
impossible because of all the "beeps and noises" the fax makes! I can hardly understand
the person who is calling me. If I make the call, there are no problems at all and we have
a clear line.
The other fax problem is, that lately, it's not possible to receive a fax (again, sending
one is no problem) I've had people try it for 10 - 15 times and I never received one of
the faxes ; the telephone rings, I do not answer and the fax makes a connection and
hangs up...
I've tried to contact Global Village many times but they just don't answer ...
I hope you know a solution, because I really need my fax machine !

I hope you can help me because -as I said before- I don't know anybody with an Apple computer (every
time I have a problem, all my friends are laughing and they keep telling me I should have
bought "a real computer" at least then they where able to help me...and I hate it when
they say this!!!).
Thanks!
Best Regards,

Lydia

Lydia,
First, don't let your friends get you down, they have problems with there "real" computers too. We here at nowonder KNOW!
Anyway, to help with your problem, I always suggest to zap your Pram first when it comes to communication software as it resets your ports. Next check under the apple for your modem, when you instaled the modem software it should have installed a panel in your apple items. If so check to see if it is selected as your communication modem. Second check under your control panels for your modem and see that it is selceted as your primary modem and set the speed. Do you have a selection for faxing in your menu bar (top right). If so check the information there as well. As you can tell there are several places to look and to verify that the information is set properly. Double check your fax control panel, where you are when you select to receive a fax and ensure the global village is chosen as your modem and not "generic". Try to reload your modem software and be sure to register with the manufacturer as they are notorious for not answering customers questions. You can even go to there web page and let them know your displeasure with not assisting you. Rebuild your desktop and see if there is a control panel for your modem that gives you a reset function. Look in your chooser and verify the port for your modem. If this information is not helpful or you have more questions please don't hesitate to write.

P.S. Keep your chin up as Mac "is" the best!

Nevin
