Hello,
my setup is the following:
-Powerbook connected to the internet via AIRPORT, to a router in my house (so it is no host for a connection, it gets on the internet thru that wireless access point)
-Pc connected (more or less, i stil have some troubles) via ethernet and crossover cable to the powerbook.
my question is : can i somehow get the pc to go on the internet this way?
Thanks!
Filippo

ok, Open System Preferences.
go to "Network"
go to "Built-in Ethernet"
in the drop-down menu next to "Configure IPv4:" choose "Manually"
change "IP Address" to 192.168.0.100
"Subnet Mask" should default to 255.255.255.0, leave this alone.
Go back to the main "System Preferences" screen.
choose "Sharing"
Go to the "Internet" Tab.
in the drop-down menu next to "Share your connection from", choose "AirPort".
in the box below, check "built-in Ethernet", and any other connections you'd like to share it to.
press the "Start" button.
now on the PC, i'm assuming it is running Windows XP.
go to the "Control Panel"
If you are in the normal view, go to "Network and internet Connections" (in classic view "Network connections"
Choose "Network Connections" (skip this step in classic view)
Make sure the PC is connecteed to the Mac at this point if it isn't already.
Right-click "Local Area Connection" choose "Properties"
Click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" once
Click "Properties"
Choose "Use the Following IP Adress"
set the IP address to 192.168.0.101
the "Subnet mask" should default to 255.255.255.0
set "Default Gateway" to 192.168.0.100 (your mac's IP)
set the "Preferred DNS Server to 192.168.0.100 (your Mac's IP)
press OK
press Close.
go to internet Explorer, or Firefox and test your connection.
Let me know how it goes.

Hello,
first of all, thanks so much for the quick answer. i really appreciate it!
Ok..bad news....I did everything you wrote, but still internet explorer can't open pages. What's odd is that i cannot see the mac on my "network places" , the only sign of life is the positive "ping" at the command line (using 192.168.0.100). Also, the mac doesn't see the pc.. help!!

I really am very bad at setting up networks...!!
If think the real problem at this point is that the two computers can't communicate at all..probably, internet sharing will work as soon as i succeed to get a connection!
Do you have some more advice? Thanks a lot, again!
Filippo

Try setting your PC to recieve an IP address automatically. this may solve the problem.

Hi,
sorry..still nothing. I really don't know what to do next.
rsilvernail - Nov 3, 2005 - 12:52 am
in the command prompt, type ipconfig and tell me what the IP address is when the connection is set to "Obtain IP Address Automatically"
peccoz - Nov 3, 2005 - 12:57 am
It says:
ethernet adapter local area connection:
IP address : 192.168.2.9
but also
fe80::213:d3ff:fe63:36aa%4
then there are two other things!
Tunnel adapter teredo tunneling pseudo interface
ip fe80::5445:5245:444f%5
and
tunnel adapter automatic tunneling pseudo-interface
ip fe80::5efe:192.168.2.9%2
probably you don't need those, but i don't know for sure..
thanks!

in Internet Explorer, first make sure that you are not "working offline" in the "File" menu. next go to "Tools>Internet Properties" go to the "Connections" Tab. Click the button that says setup.
Click "Next" when the wizard pops up.
choose "Connect to the Internet"
Click Next
Choose "Set up My Connection Manually"
choose "Connect using a broadband connection that is always on."
Click "Next" then "Finish"
This may hopefully take care of it.

My suggestion would be to buy a cheap USB or PCI wireless adapter for the PC.
peccoz - Nov 4, 2005 - 12:37 am
i see..so there is no way of setting up a network between mac and pc? That's too bad! Thanks again,
Filippo

well, it's much easier to use the PC as the one connected directly to the internet w/ the mac as the client. i'm sorry, i've done everything i can think of, would you like me to repool the question?
peccoz - Nov 4, 2005 - 12:58 am
If it is no problem, maybe yes, i'd like to! But anyway, thanks very much for your time and the amazingly quick answers!
