Knowledge Level: I'm New!
Problem: Software
Computer Type: Mac
Model: 7200/90
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: Ram Doubler 2.x
OS Version: MacOS 8.5

Description:
I just tried to use Sherlock for the first time with Netscape 4.5 and MacOS 8.5.1. I get one of two messages: "Can't find Sherlock app" or "network settings are wrong"
Could not find any answers at Netscape or Apple. Reinstalled 8.5.1 after tossing Sherlock but still had the same problem so cannot use Sherlock to search the internet.
Happy Holidays
Thanks, Gordon

Merry Christmas, Gordon -

I see both of your messages our Mac question board this morning.

If you have properly installed SHERLOCK ----- here is what you should find.

First of all, you should look in your System Folder and you should find a folder in there named Internet Search Sites. In it will be a number of icons which are known as <.src> files. They are the search engine aliases, in reality. Additional <.src> files for numerous web sites are available on the Apple web site

http://www.apple.com/

and elsewhere.

Second, you should look in your Apple Menu Items Folder, also inside of your SYSTEM Folder. That is where the SHERLOCK Application should be found.

When you loaded the Mac OS 8.5, what type of an installation did you make? There are choices on the CD with the OS 8.5 software on it. That is why I ask. If you need to, you can simply locate SHERLOCK o that CD and install it only. You do not have to re-install the entire Operating System.

Make sure before you install any new software to ALWAYS "turn off" any virus detection software you might have installed on your computer.

Finally, there is an updater to the Mac OS 8.5 which is FREE and can be found at the Apple web site also. It eliminates a few bugs in the initail software.

Let me know what you find out. Happy Holidays!
