Hello there
I don't have any of the original Sherlock channels in the main channels menu. I upgraded to OS 10.4.8 a while ago - this seems to have done it.
I used the translation channel regularly and would absolutely like to retrieve this. I tried trashing the com.apple.Sherlock.plist file as mentioned in this forum, but to no avail.
I would be grateful for any help and guidance on this.
Yours sincerely
Trey.

Hi Trey
Quit Sherlock then delete these three things from the Library folder in your home folder:
User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Sherlock.plist
User/Library/Preferences/Sherlock
Go to your - userfolder/Library/Caches/Sherlock/Web Foundations and toss the contents of the Web Foundations folder. Now click on that folder, press Command-I to bring up the Info window, and enable the Locked option.
Delete the following from the User/Library/Caches/Sherlock folder:
CheckPointCache.plist WebFoundation (folder)
Then start Sherlock. Give it a few minutes to gather the channels from the web again.

Wow! thanks for such a quick response.
In reference to your response:

After I lock the folder, it won't let me delete it. With the folder undeleated all aforementioned items deleted, and the trash can empty, I get a plethora of channels, but no apple channels (save internet and stock). Any other ideas?...they would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm...Nevermind. I waited for half an hour, but it refreshed itself after I opened an unrelated channel. What causes Apple channels to disappear, and how can I prevent Translation from disappearing again?

Ok, unlock then delete and lock again.
As for Apple's channels, Apple doesn't seem to be keeping Sherlock alive anymore. A lot of people have been complaining about this on Apple's boards.

Like I mentioned, Apple doesn't seem to be interested in keeping Sherlock alive. I wouldn't be surprised if it was gone in the next system release.

Thanks again for all the quick responses. I'm new to Apple, and getting used to Mac OS, and I absolutely love it. Losing Sherlock would be a shame. Thanks again for all your help.
