Description:
I'm hooked up to an ethernet net centered around a FileShare server. My client Mac has upgraded to OS 8.5, but the server Mac is still 8.1, and I can't even see the server volume as being available for indexing.

Can a FileShare volume use Sherlock indexing? Does it require the server Mac to be upgraded to 8.5 before it can be indexed from the client machine?

Thx,
Reb Guthrie

Welcome to No Wonder!, Reb.

Your server cannot be indexed with 8.1. I believe it must also have AppleShare IP 6.0 in order to be indexed for Sherlock searching (You would not want to index the volume from your machine, but from the server).

Check the Apple Tech Info Library for the specifications on Sherlock indexing.

Good luck, and thanks for using No Wonder!
