TICKET ARCHIVE -> Sherlock Went Nuts

Today, when I went load Sherlock to use the Translation feature, several odd things happened.

First... the names of some of the channels changed from English to either Chinese of Japanese characters. This confused me, so I clocked on the Apple Channels to see what that would show. Not only were some of the channel names in a different language, but so were the channel descriptions.

I closed Sherlock and rebooted, always the first thing I try. When I opened Sherlock this time, it now had channels in French. I opened Sherlock preferences, which brings up all the cookies, and thinking that maybe I got a stray cookie that was causing confusion I deleted all of them. I clocked on the Apple Channels again, and this time, all the the channels flickered on for a second, then just as quickly disappeared.

I read in your forums of the deletion of the preferences file for Sherlock and trying that, which I did, to no avail. I'm left with only the Internet channel, nothing else.

Help!

HI, OFTEN the standard Apple method of testing this is to create a brand new user on your Mac. Try it. If that Sherlock problem goes away, you may be able if permissions don't get in your way (good luck on that) to transfer some of the new, functioning pref's over to your user account and repair the problem.
You have run Disk Repair and repaired your own permissions faithfully, haven't you?

I created a Test Admin account as suggested, tested Sherlock, and everything looked fine. I copied the pref file for Sherlock and put that copy in my directory for my main account... nothing.

Disk Repair and permissions all updated and repaired too.

My Sherlock is still dysfunctional. Any ideas?

Hi - Our daugher also had Sherlock problems. Most of her "channnels" did not show up any more due to some corruption. She had to get rid of all traces of the program, preferences etc and start from scratch. It was a pain, but it eventually worked.
That's my last suggestion, sorry.
Dave
