I want to add a 2nd snow airport to extend my range. How do I add? Do I have to reconfigure my 1st one also?
OS 10.3

Larry,
The easiest way to add another base station to your already existing AirPort Network is to use the AirPort Setup Assistant. The Assistant is located in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder. Also, make sure all of your base stations have the most current firmware installed on them. You can download the most current firmware from:
http://www.apple.com/support/airport/
And no, you shouldn't have to reconfigure your first base station.
If you want more assistance, do not hesitate to respond.

Thanks for the response Andrew.
When I use the setup ass't it requests the password for the airport. I bought it used, so apparently it has already been set up with someone's password. Can I get around that?

You can perform a hard reset on the AirPort. I included the link to Apple's Support site:

I went through the setup assistant after doing a soft reset of the airport. I now have 2 networks witht he same name, one (the origional) is connected to the itnernet and the new one is not. My goal is to have the new one be just a range extender. What did I do wrong?
Thanks

First, perform a hard reset rather than a soft reset so it will be like setting up a brand new base station. Then, when using the Setup Assistant, click add to existing networks, rather than create new network.

I did a hard reset. I connected with an Ethernet cable and configured the airport with new firmware.
Now I have tried to use the airport setup assistant to add the airport to the network, but that never shows up as a choice. It wants to either set up my computer or set up the new airport as a base station.
I have tried leaving the connection at Ethernet, and setting it to airport. Neither seem to work. At one point I wound up with two networks showing, one for each airport. I got rid of that by doing another hard reset.
What do I have to do to get the airport "on line" with the base??
Thanks

Are you plugging more than one AirPort into the ethernet? Only one should be plugged in.

No, just plugging in the new one.
With it plugged in, do I set my network preferences to airport or ethernet?

AirPort

OK. The 2nd airport is doing the slow one second blink (Does that mean it did not get configured?). I am connected to it with ethernet. My computer preference is set to airport.
When I start Airport Setup Assistant it does not give me the choice of connecting the airport to an existing network.

How can I tell if the new software actually was loaded to the new airport? I was assuming that clicking on multiple configurations would cover it...

Open AirPort Admin Utility and click on one AirPort at a time and in the right part of the window, it will display the firmware version.

Only the original base station shows up there.

Unfortunately, I am not going to be able to assist you any more tonight. I will post your question back to the open pool and if it is not resolved by tomorrow, we can work on it then. Please accept my apologies.

I'm so sorry to waist all your time. I just realized that you can only extend the range of a network with AirPort Extreme or Express. The Snow AirPort does not support this feature. Underneath, I provided a link to the manual for Desgining AirPort NEtworks. I might have read the manual wrong, so its worth a shot to take a look. I'm sorry I could not have been more help and I am terribly sorry for waisting your time.
