PROBLEM: Software
COMPUTER TYPE: Dell
MODEL: XPS R 450 Pentium II
RAM: 65+
OS VERSION: Windows 98
SERVICE PACK: 4.10
DESCRIPTION:
When I try to play Windows Media Player, particularly fromj a site, it starts to load then shows up on the screen for about 2 seconds then the famous blue screen pops up: Fatal exception OE occurred at 0028:00000013. Now I've done a little research and this error is indicating that there is a software conflict, I think. NOTE: To help the tech. FYI...I have RealPlayer Plus G2 with IQfx Sound. Works great no problem. I thought iQ Sound was the problem..un-installed it..same thing occurred. Then I took out the Media Player from the normal Windows 98 procedures. My version was 5.2. Then I went to Micosoft and downloaded the 6.0 version. It forced the 5.2 version back on to my computer and then downloaded the 6.0 which I have since found out was an upgrade. Now I'm thinking that it has to do with maybe a corrupted download or installation of the media player. It is not allowing any of my software games to be played by showing the same blue screen. This is a real problem, my hard drive is 17.2g and I'm not about to reformat this baby. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Skip
Hi Louis,
Just for you to keep in mind, if this was my PC, I would have Dell on the phone and demand that they get it straightened out. A 450 Pentium II, it has to be very new and I would be mad.
But you are you, and I will try to help you with this one.
Have you installed any new software recently? Games? Anything? Did you notice the problem began after any particular application was added?
How old is the PC? Any other problems or error messages?
Let me know and we will go from here.
Yours,
