TICKET ARCHIVE -> software update today kills Illustrator

Hi,
I did the software update today (1/31/06) and now I cannot launch Adobe Illustrator (10.0.3). Can you give me any help on this? Are there any disc utility programs I can run, like Norton Utilities? This machine has not had anything done to it since it was new 1 1/2 years ago. Or is there any Adobe update patch?

I did the software update today (1/31/06) and now I cannot launch Adobe Illustrator (10.0.3). Can you give me any help on this? Are there any disc utility programs I can run, like Norton Utilities? This machine has not had anything done to it since it was new 1 1/2 years ago. Or is there any Adobe update patch?

Howdy! Don't use norton at all on your os x machine because OS X handles all file optimization and Norton actually confuses your disk directories. Not good. Might as well throw that software away.
I recommend using Apps/Utilities/Disk Utility and repairing permissions. Then restart.
If problem persists, then boot in Safe Mode and force a system check. Restart/Hold command + s till black screen comes up, then type "fsck -f" to force the system check. Type "reboot" to boot up in OS X.

It has been working fine with all apps (Photoshop 7.0, Illustrator 10.0.3 and Quark 6.5).

Our next steps will be, if the first two I gave you don't work, we delete the Adobe Online and Adobe Illustrator preference files. But don't do that yet.

You need to find the App preferences for illustrator (just do a search for illustrator and prefs to find the pref file) and make sure you delete the App pref for it, not just the User pref for it.

(you have to search for plist and pref files)
Find this file and move it to your desktop (don't delete it yet) and then restart illustrator:
USER/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Illustrator Prefs
This forces illustrator to create a new pref file, so be advised all your settings will be set to factory default.

Also, I just realized; Illustrator 10 is a classic app, yes? Then you'll have to go to os 9 system/prefs and delete the illustrator preference file there.

Illustrator 10 is both Classic and OS X compatible. I believe it gave you both options for installs. Mine has always been launched natively in OS X.
But just in case, I checked the Classic prefs folder and there wasn't any Illustrator pref file.
Right now I had deleted that "USER/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Illustrator Prefs" file. But Illustrator still crashes on launch.
I actually reinstalled it yesterday in frustration and it STILL crashes. Do you think it's just too old for the latest OSX version?

I'm going to search and post to the Adobe Forum about your issue and see if I get any response. I wouldn't doubt that since you're on the "bleeding edge" of OS X that your Illustrator 10 got left behind.
