Hi,
I have recently being given a Sony DCR DVD403 camcorder. I believe this camera may not be compatible with my powerbook. Does anybody know if this is correct.
Is there a way of loading video from this piece of kit onto my mac.
The operating system is mac OS x tiger
Thanks
Mart

However, I can help you in ripping the Sony DVD (if it can be ripped..) on your mac and then view it (with Apple DVD player) or VLC

When you've the DVD from the Sony
To play
------
perhaps the Apple DVD player is able to view directly like it; just test it;
otherwise downlaod VLC, the most complete freeware DVD player on the market
www.videolan.org
If not, it is time to rip it
Ripping
------
Use MacTheRipper to rip you whole DVD - to a VIDEO_TS folder on your mac
http://www.ripdifferent.com/~mtr/
The VIDEO_TS can be be opened (and played) in Apple DVD palyer or in VLC
To clone the DVD (if you have a DVD burner): the free solution
----------------------------------------------------
From the VIDEO_TS folder, use DVDImager to crate a DVD Image of this VIDEO_TS folder
http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/apples...dvdimager.html
and finally use the burn facility of DiskUtility to burn a blank DVD
Just two things: (a) the final size of the image of the DVD to be burnt must in the valid range of a DVD-R: 4.7G !
(b) you must have at least twice the size of DVD to copy free on your hard drive to proceed this manual procedure !
To clone the DVD (if you have a DVD burner): the commercial solution
----------------------------------------------------
Still from the VIDEO_TS or directly from the DVD Sony burned
PopCorn, a commercial app -
http://www.roxio.com/en/products/popcorn/index.jhtml - does all this one trick plus is able to compress a whole DVD to fit in the range of 4.7G
Well, for 50 $ ....
On these infos of course on ripping/burning for ..playing. I've no idea hox to use the SONY DVD within iMovie or iDVD
Just have a look, test and do not hesitate to post back for any other question
