G5 20in. Tiger 10.4.2

Within the last few days, the sound from my Quicktime, Windows Media Player, and all browsers only work sporadically. Zero sound from websites that have sound. Quicktime, no sound. Windows Media Player tells me files that have worked fine for months are suddenly "encoded with a codec that may not allow them to play correctly" even though they've worked dozens of times before. Every now and then a short period will come up where the sound will work, but then another previously fine file will decide not to work and everything will stop working again for hours on end until I hit another "lucky spot."

While this is not working, things like the volume adjust sound will work just fine. So will iTunes. The only possible thing I can connect this to is updating to the newest version of iTunes, but even then it didn't happen immediately. I cannot seem to find any kind of preferences anywhere that can fix this issue. Is it perhaps stemming from a glitch in the newest program?

I had the same problem with Quicktime not playing at all - and finally - even did an archive and install of 10.4.2 - which did not help!

I think upgrading to Quicktime 7.0.2 fixed my problem - although I also trashed every preference file - that had Quicktime in the name.

I have a 2002 Quicksilver PowerMac with a 933 MHZ processor.

I will send this back to the pool -

Good Luck,
Rob
