Hello All
Hope this is the right place for my silly question. Any help would be very, very appreciated.
I run OS X 10.5.2 on a Dual 2 Ghz Mac Pro. Problem described below was identical when running 10.4. I have two HDs and ample ram (3 gigs).
On startup, my Mac takes ages (about 2 minutes) to find the OS and display the apple symbol on gray screen. When previously using 10.4, it was finding it sometimes reasonably quickly, sometimes taking quite some time too.
I ran Disk Utility but no joy.
Also, i find that generally, my mac is sluggish. The new OS was installed from scratch (as in: format and reinstall all apps, only copying back in the User files after reinstalling).
Anyone any idea why?
Thanks!
Jean,
Thanks for using MacOSX.com! I will do my best to help you. First things, first; open System Preferences and click "Startup Disk". Make sure that the correct drive is selected. If you don't have a default drive selected, that tends to make the startup process take longer as the computer has to search for a system folder.
I'm also curious to see what your Activity Monitor is showing (found in the Utilities folder) when your computer is running sluggish.
One of the blessings of Leopard is that screen-sharing is now possible. If you feel comfortable with it, I'd be happy to take a look at your computer myself and see what the problem might be. Audio chat would be active, so I would talk you through what I was doing. Also, pressing ctrl+esc will shut down screen sharing should you ever feel uncomfortable.
