installed tiger several tries. the last time partitioned hard drive and erased. installed on a blank drive and still a gray screen on start up.

factory computer, no added components.

imac g4 1.25 1 gb ram, 160 gb hd 20 inch flat panel.

on safe start it works fine, for the items that work.

tried this before and got so frustrated that I went back to 10.3.9

any help will be appreciated.

Boot the installer Cd for Panther and run a Disk Repair in Disk Utility and tell me what comes up.

did the accounts/login items, reset pram, reset nvram, fsck, firmware and still no complete \start up..

it seems that when i start the computer you hear the noise and hear the machine working a gray screen will appear with the apple logo on it and a wheel under it, like a normal start up. when the desktop should be showing up a light blue or grayish screen appears and nothing else happens. it's like one step away from loading. I let it stay there for up to an hour. ( some people said that works)

there are some folders in the hd/system/library/startup items , but I don't know what I 'm looking at maybe I can find it somewhere

thanks any ideas

removed all items from system / library / startup- no change

i have even tried disk warrior - no change

I don't know where or if the imac has a pmu.

I have an ibook but i'm afraid to load tiger on it because of the problems that I am having here and what I've read on line.

ok what is the next step.

Wait, you have an iBook too?

If so and you have a firewire cable we might be able to reinstall Panther from the iBook onto the iMac

let me know if this is possible

I have the panther diisks that came with the imac and have put it back on between tiger installs. panther works great on this machine. all I can come up with is there is some part, factory installed that doesn't like tiger. there are several other people I have ran into that have the same problem with no answers. and yes i do have a firewire cable too. what is the next step my family is ready to kill me because of how long this is taking.
