Two questions -
I have a few programs i would like to load upon startup but that option is not available within the programs themselves. I know within windows this is as simple as placing a copy of the program in the startup folder, but i'm not sure how to do this in mac os x. How would one go about getting these programs to run when the computer starts up?
Second question - Another option in windows is the ability to disable the automatic sleep option when the laptop's lid is closed. Is it possible to reconifigure what the laptop does when i close the lid?
My specs are below -
Macbook Pro -
Core 2 Duo 2.16 Ghz
2 GB ram
120 GB
Mac OS X 10.4.8 with latest updates
Mark,
All you need to do to get programs to launch at start up is select them in the System Preferences.
Go to System Preferences (light switch in the dock) and select Account.
Click on your user name in the list of accounts at the left, then click on the Login Items button.
At the bottom of this window will be a pad lock. Click on it and enter your password at the prompt.
Now you can make changes to your preferences. In the right side of the window is These items will open automatically - at the bottom is a plus and minus button. Click on the plus button.
A new window will open. It should open to Applications. Now just select the program you want, making sure you select the actual program icon not the folder.
You can continue to hit the plus button and add the programs you want to start up. When done, just close the System Preferences window.
Now when you start up, those programs will launch.
As for the sleep option when the laptop lid is closed, this is done by default and as a safety reason. You can adjust the Energy Saver (for sleep) from the System Preferences Panel. Here is a web site that can explain all those panels:
