How do you configure Apple mail on OS X 10.4 to stop using preview as the default viewer for attached PDF files.

The PDF file type in Finder has already been associated with acrobat reader, and when you click on a saved PDF file it uses acrobat, as expected.

Mail continues to use Preview, and you need top right click and select Acrobat from the Open With menu in order to use that. I'd like it to just be the default.

Is that possible?

Thanks.

Hi Mfo

Mail is built to do this. Take a look at this Shareware;

The problem was that we had changed the default reader for one particular PDF file in finder, not all of them. We had to use the "Change All..." button in the info page instead. At that point, Mail used Acrobat as we wanted.

The suggested plug-in had nothing to do with the problem, though it does fix another annoying aspect of Mail that we noticed, and we are now using the plug-in for that reason.

So thanks for trying and for putting us in touch with the plug-in anyway.
