I have been using Mail for a long time now.
Recently people have been telling me that when they receive my emails, all of the spaces change to symbols [sometimes ? and sometimes other symbols].
In my line of work, I can not afford to have this, as many of my emails contain legal wording that must be exactly replicated.
What could be causing this? and how can i fix this?

i should also mention that the recipients are running a windows computer....but that it is a lot of different people seeing these symbols.
also....it appears that many of the photos i send will not show up in their emails....instead making them save to desktop and reopen in external application.
one other problem is that photos i receive sometimes appear as negatives, and only show normal when i open in photoshop. if i view in mail or preview...it will appear inverted (black is white, etc)

This is a very old problem with mac, the compatibility to windows has allways sucked.
Many years I had compatibility problems from Mac mail to Windows Outlook. Now when I converted to Thunderbird it works perfectly!
My recommendation is that you convert to Mozilla Thunderbird. At the Mozilla site you can find lots of aids and software for converting mac mail to thunderbird and also how to convert mac address book to Thunderbird address book.
Many years I had compatibility problems from Mac mail to Windows Outlook. Now when I converted to Thunderbird it works perfectly!

i am trying to install thunderbird....
i set up all my accounts...
they were able to download new mail....BUT !!!!! when i click on the new mail, it says:
The File /users/name/location/inbox?number=1083679 can not be found.
wtf is happening?

Check the settings for the outgoing SMTP server. Thunderbird will assume you should need authentication for sending mail. Check if you really need that and edit the setting.
