Dear OSX experts
I'm Mac literate but certainly not yet a Mac geek.
Over the past few weeks I have carried out some updates to my OSX on my eMac. I installed Tiger and purchased a Maxtor one-touch external hard drive. Both of which worked fine. But since installing the various Tiger updates and putting a password on airport I now find that somewhere along the line:
1. I have started to be asked for a password to the keychain "system", particularly after downloading software or updates. But I don't remember ever having loaded a password on that keychain. Neither my administrator password nor my airport password satisfy this request. If I cancel the password request no ill-effects occur as far as I can see.
2. Perhaps connected with the above, the backup programme, Retropsect Express, that came with my Maxtor external drive, will no longer load.
Any thoughts gratefully received!

I have seen this on my own Mac after a recent update, here is how to fix-
Go to Keychain access in Utilities
Find and keychains that relate to your Airport password and delete them
Disconnect from your Airport and re-connect
Enter password and tick store in keychain
That should fix it.
As for Retrospect express you can try deleting the preference file and re-install the application.
Do you have the latest version from Dantz,V6.1.126?

Hi. I still have a problem with the system keychain. There were two entries. One was deletable, bu the other is indeed within the system keychain and that one won't delete without my unlocking the system keychain, which of course I can't do as I don't have the password!
Any further thoughts gratefully received!

Please ignore last mesage Ed. I have realised how to carry this operation through - I don't find keychain access the most intuitive of applications. Hopefully now this is sorted. I had to power down the airport as well though, to get rid of an "access control list message".
Thanks
