Does anyone know if you can control system preferences from Terminal? I was messing around on a desktop machine that I control with Chicken of the VNC and set the colors to 256 - now the screen is black and I can't see a thing! Can i go in via terminal and reset the color setting back to millions?

Hi Robert.

When you connect there's two ways to get the colors:

1. The first is setting your remote computer's display settings to 256/thousands/millions of colors.
2. The second is setting your VNC client to 256/thousands/millions of colors.

Try setting your VNC client back to thousands, and set your remote computer to 256.

I ended up deleting the display preference file and restarting the computer - it restored it back the default of a thousand colors. all is well, but three hours down the tube trying to figure that out....
