Knowledge Level: Intermediate
Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple & STF
Model: Apple Telcom & FAXstf Home Ed.
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.5.1

Description:
For some reason I can't get any fax software, Apple's Telecom or FAXstf Home edition to work. Both say a fax failed because the modem did not respond. The modem is turned on, the Telecom version is 1.3.1 and the Geoport Express modem is 3.1.1.
I've reinstalled, run conflict tests, run one at a time.
The modem always works for the internet.
I now have the Apple Telecom software installed and not the FAXstf, so it would be easiest for me to work with it than the FAXstf software, but I'll try anything.
Thanks,
Paul
P.S. The Apple Telecom software which came with this computerr (Performa 6400/180) never really worked and Apple even sent me stf software early on to "fix" it. A couple of clean installs later, and losing the stf serial #, I bought the stf Home edition. Which brings us up to now, and neither one working. FAXstf blames the modem software, which makes sense since the Apple software has the same problem.

Paul,

Mac OS 8.5 does not support the phone and fax section of the Telecom Software. I too had the same problem, the workaround is to change your printer port from your printer to the modem and then fax each page seperately. Apple recently placed documentation in regards to this issue. Please go to www.apple.com, choose Support section, choose Technical Library and search for 'Telecom 3.1.3'

In a way this is good and bad, bad in that there will be no more support, good in that it motivates people (like myself) to upgrade to 56K.
