Dear George,

My name is Vinko and I will attempt to assist you.

Please specify when did you see this error message dialog? How are you accessing your movies? Are you trying to do so from the "Movies" folder of your Home directory?

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Dear George,

Thank you for your reply.

I don't quite understand what you said in your last email, but your Home directory should have a Movies folder.

Each account created on the Mac in Mac OS X has a Home directory and within it the following folders are created automatically:
  • Applications
  • Desktop
  • Documents
  • Library
  • Movies
  • Music
  • Pictures
  • Public
  • Sites
The respective applications (iPhoto, iTunes, iDVD, iMovie, iWeb, Pages) would store and locate files from these respective folders.

So if you do not have a folder named "Movies" in your Home directory, then unfortunately, you may have accidentally deleted it.

Dear George,

If you did delete the folder "Movies" in your Home directory, you can immediately try using one of the File Recovery utility to restore the Movies folder from your drive.

Example software:I had not used either software by many had great results with "Data Rescue II".

Although, the likelihood of this to work is not high, as you had been using your Mac, therefore, the content of your Mad hard drive is being changed and potentially the previous disk space occupied by the Movies folder had been overwritten.

Ok Vinko

I have treid data rescue II and the screen shot is the result. With the demo youo get just one 5mb download. I choose one of the quicktimes (which have got different file names to my quicktime movies) but it didn't open.

Any ideas?

Also, why can't the volume movies be found?

Dear George,

Thank you for your reply.

Your screen shot looks very strange. It does not appear to be your internal volume of your Mac with Mac OS X.

What is "CBR"? Is that the name of your internal hard drive? If that is the case, do you see a directory called "Users"?

What is the "short" name of the user account you are using?

As mentioned in my previous reply. Your Home directory (for the current account should look like what I had described in my last reply.

If we "CBR" is the name of your internal hard drive then where is your "Applications", "Library" and "System" folders. I assume the latter is also not in the list.

Are you sure you are looking at the "internal" hard drive of your Mac?

BTW: you still did not mention how you are accessing the movies? Are you trying to click on the "Movies" icon in your Finder window's Side Bar? Where is this "Movies" item you are trying to access?

Regards,
