I'm looking through lots of pictures for certain ones. Is it possible for the Finder to show Thumbnails? If not, what program do you recommend? I think I have Adobe Photoshop but my computer is slow. Perhaps a "leaner" software package would be better? All I need for picture viewing is zoom and real Full Screen (Adobe sucks at both of these) and an easy picture rotater. I'm not doing any editing of the pictures at all.

Hi Charles,

If you have a folder full of JPEGs, you should be able to view the thumbnails of those images by setting you Finder window to show thumbnails in the View Options.

Try this:
Click in the window containing you JPEGs in Finder. Now, either select "Icons" from the "View" menu, or press [Cmd]+[1] to change that window to display icons. Then either select "Show View Options" from the "View" menu at the top of your screen of press [Cmd]+[J]. That will display the View Options dialog.

At the top of that window there are two radio buttons: "This window only" and "All windows". For the purpose of this exercise, click on "This window only".

Just below that, you will see a slider called "Icon Size". Drag it all the way to the right until it reads "128 x 128".

This will force Finder either to display the preview that was saved with the file when it was saved in, for example, Photoshop, at the largest size possible. Be advised, though, that if you are going to edit and save these files, you will need to set the window view back to "List", as there seems to be a bug in OS X which will cause Finder to crash when updating a thumbnail icon in "Icon" view mode.

I have to disagree with you about Photoshop, though. Have you tried using the "File Browser" under the "Windows" menu. Give it a bash – it may surprise you!

If youreally can't live with it, though, then you could try using the application that I use for handling huge quantities of images: iView Media Pro. You can check out their site here:

Hope that helps!

My icons didn't were blank at the size of 128 x 128. Great.

I'll try the software you recommended.

You know, I really can't understand why people rave over this OS. There are so many flaws, bugs and inconsistantsies. Oh wait, I realize now. Its because the other choice is even worse.

If it wasn't for you guys I probably would have gone back to Windows months ago. There are so many ways they could make the transition so much easier from Windows....but pride says no. We live in a bewilderingly strange world.

Thanks. We can close this ticket.
