just installed Tiger o/s on a G4 desktop. the person that is using this has dialup connection only. RJ 45 connection works just fine, but the dialup is another story.I don't want to do an reinstall.

I don't understand the connections from "just installed tiger" to "dialup" to "reinstall." However, if you're concerned about Software Update's need to download very large updates that would take forever on dialup, just download them manually from Apple, put them on a flash drive or other portable medium, and install them from there.

The G4 was running osx 9 and i wiped it out and installed tiger. Now I can not get the dialup modem to work. The nic connection works just fine. I read somewhere that there is a known issue with Tiger. I just like to know if there is a fix to this issue.
Thanks Ben

This was a known issue with DVI PowerBooks under 10.4 and 10.4.1. Have you run the combo update to 10.4.11 yet?

I don't know what the issue is. XLR8YourMac has a thread on Tiger modem issues from which you might get some useful tips. Since you just did a full install from scratch, I don't think a reinstall is likely to result any way differently.

Does System Profiler see the modem as installed at all? Apple makes a USB modem you can buy if like. I'm not familiar with PCI modems anymore, though I'm sure you could find one with compatible drivers.
