Hi Everyone! I am trying to upgrade to Tiger but had so many compatability issues that I switched back to 10.3. Usually it is relatively easy to find patches and upgrades and fixes but I keep running into sites that say there is a fix download but either the download does not work or I cannot actually find the file to download.
Tiger conflicts with Retrospect for Maxtor (I have found that upgrade) but I am unable to find to proper printer drivers or fixes for the Canon 960i Color inkjet and the HP 2200d BW Laserjet. I am afraid of what other conflicts I will find.
I'm using the usual graphics apps, palm, ipod, cameras, digital video, quicken.
Can anyone help with the two printer upgrades and anyone know of any other conflicts I should beware of.
Thanks
SSK

Printer drivers for both of your printers are included with Tiger according to this:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301175.

Upgrade Retrospect to version 6.1.126 for Tiger compatibility. As for other software and peripherals you can check out these sources:

Thanks for getting back to me. Can't figure out then why I could not get them (the printers) to work and could not - I could not even find the i960. I have also since found that Internet Security - Symantec has not yet upgraded for Tiger. What do people do about these issues?

The printer drivers have to be installed with OS X. They are optional installs. If you did not install any drivers that would explain why you couldn't find them. You can locate the various printer driver packages on the Tiger DVD. Simply double-click on the family package you need (Canon and HP) to install them.

As for Symantek's Internet Security as far as I'm aware Symantek only supports Anti-Virus for the Mac. All of there other Mac products are no longer supported nor compatible. I would uninstall them if you have them installed. I don't know why you need such protection, so I don't know what I might be able to suggest as a replacement. If all you need is firewall protection, just turn on the OS X built-in firewall (use the Sharing preference pane.)

Thank you soooo much - that's how out of the loop I've been - no wonder all sorts of screwy things have been going on since I installed NIS. OK That is gone. Now I just need the Retrospect fix for Tiger and to find the drivers. You don't think anything else would conflict? Are you using it without any problems?

I don't use Retrospect, my personal preference is Synchronize! Pro X. However, I've used Retrospect in the past for quite some time through version 5.x. However, lots of people are using Retrospect with OS X quite successfully. But you do need to keep your version very current to avoid problems between Retrospect and new revisions of OS X.

Retrospect came with my Maxtor one touch - That doesn't mean i couldn't use different software does it?

Yes, I am using Tiger 10.4.4.

I don't know the answer to your question about the Maxtor One Touch. I'm assuming that they use of Retrospect is somehow "built-in" to the "one touch" system in order to make a virtually automated backup. However, if that's not true, then there should be no reason why you could not use other backup software. Unfortunately, I'm not at all familiar with the Maxtor One Touch drives, so I'm a little leery on advising you to make changes to it. I think I would defer to Maxtor's tech support and ask them what's feasible.

Understand, however, that Retrospect is an excellent backup utility. It's been the premier workhorse backup utility for the Mac for years. It's also the only one that can backup to so many different types of media (tape, CD, DVD, hard drives, removables, etc.) and can backup over multiple media. In this regard it's unequaled. Of course the full feature set is only available in the Retrospect Desktop version. Retrospect Express, the OEM versions, does not support all the features.
