I work in a prepress environment and am getting ready to purchase new macs with Tiger OS. Are there any problems with the following applications running on Tiger: Quark 6.5, Adobe CS2, Freehand MX, Pagemaker 7.0.

Also, has anyone heard how these software companys are going to handle the switch to the new Macs with Intel chips? Are they supplying free upgrades to those who have purchased full versions and/or upgrades within a certain time?, Are they going to make us buy new versions?, etc.

Thanks So Much!

Quark 6.5 - They are testing with 10.4, but no announcement regarding compatibility. It works for some, but not all. It does not work 100 percent.

Adobe CS2 - Tiger compatible (latest versions)

Macromedia Products - See: Tech Note.

Pagemaker - Pagemaker is no longer in production having been replaced by InDesign which is part of the Adobe CS.

For more on Tiger compatibility see the following:

By the time the new Intel-based Macs are on the market most existing software will have already been revised a couple of times. Companies, by then, will likely be supplying their products compiled to run on either platform. Some developers are already converting their products to dual-platform executables.
