I wish to transfer my old copy of entourage (microsoft office 2001) and have it plus all its user data work on my ibook G4 mac osx. When I double click on its icon a new version downloads as a 30 day trial, typical microsoft strategy, so I am wondering how to get out of this arm twister. I only use MS office for entourage and to read attachments sent in Word which doesn't justify buying the new version.

Oliver,

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do, are you saying you want to use OS 10's Mail instead of Entourage and therefore you want to transfer all of your mail and contacts to mail?

I would prefer to use entourage on the new ibook. Having placed a copy of MS office 2001 in mac os9 applications folder and user data in documents folder I double clicked on the entourage icon which prompted a download and installation of a test drive version of MS Office 2004. Not what I had in mind!
If there is no way out of this then I will adopt Mail. How can I transfer all data from entourage to Mail?

Oliver,

Well it fairly easy to transfer your mail and contacts, of course saying that will probably make it hard. You can transfer all your mailboxes into Mail by selecting File menu/Import and then its much the same for your contacts by again selecting File menu/Import in Address book.

Its a little different than entourage as your contact and mail are in separate programs but the two programs talk to each other.

Also you mentioned you only used Office to read attachments sent to you, well here is something else you can do to rid yourself of the MS menance AppleWorks which is usually included with most Mac's is able to read and write both word and excel files. Also the TextEdit app. that is included with OS 10 can read and write word files.

So now you have no excuse to dump MS, happy days.
