Hi there,

I hope you can help. I'm trying to download music from my minidisc player to my Powerbook (OSX 10.3.9) so I can put it on my ipod via itunes. I have a product called imic, and through this I can make the computer 'hear' the music (when I change the settings in sound preferences). The problem is that I can't work out how to record the music anywhere. I can record it to imovie, but this application will only take 10 seconds of music via the 'voiceover' option at any one time. I have Toast, but there doesn't seem to be any way to get the music into Toast, except by saving these 10-second imovie clips to the desktop - but obviously that's useless.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks,
Kate.

The iMic comes with software that does exactly what you are asking about. It's the Final Vinyl software on the CD that came with the iMic. You can also download Final Vinyl from Griffin Tech - it's free!
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/

Other software - Audio HiJack
http://rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/

or, Wiretap Pro

Thanks for using MacOSX.com !

Hello Dale,
Many thanks for your help with this - I'm really grateful. I downloaded iMic and have now managed to record an album from minidisc onto my computer. Only thing is - the album at around 75 mins of music seems to come in at a huge size (around 850MB), which means the process takes hours and hours, either crashes the computer or seriously upsets it, and it often loses the process half way through. In addition, I don't have enough room on my laptop or ipod for files of this size. Is there anything I can do to sort this out? Thanks again! Kate.

You're getting un-compressed audio, and those will be quite large files.
You should be able to convert the large tracks to mp3 files through iTunes, either by re-importing the music, or just convert to mp3 through the Advanced menu in iTunes. You could also change the iTunes import preferences.
