So today I created a new screen name to download AIM under but when I went to the AIM webpage it automatically logged me in as my original screen name...which is rather minor considering after I decided to continue the download under this sn...the file wouldn't open. It would download just fine (AIM 4.7), but then when I click it to begin the installation I get this message "QuickTime cannot open the file: "aim.bin" it is not a file that QuickTime understands (-2048). So then I downloaded an earlier version of AIM 4.3 which asked me to choose an application to open it under (which I had no clue..so skipped). After these unsuccessful attempts I researched a bit and I learned it would simply be best to download Adium anyways. However when I did this, it would dowsnload and I would click but still get a new message stating "The following disk images could not be recogonized" and listed below was Adium! Sooooo, I'm basically frustrated but still wanting to get either get AIM or Adium on my computer. Any help that is provided will be greatly apprectiated! Thanks.

Btw, I'm using an Emac which uses Mac OS X Tiger, 10.4... if that means anything.

Adium is awesome BTW.

Your *.bin file just needs to unencoded. Stuffit Expander which you should find on your system should be able to handle that just fine. If you don't have Stuffit Expander, you should download it, it's free. A must have utility for Mac users.

What was the file you downloaded Adium showing up as? Chances are Stuffit Expander will solve both issues.

Okay so I do have stuffit expander 6.0 on my computer but I assumed this was an extremely outdated version so decided to download stuffitexpander 11.dmg. Unfortunately, I still have the same problem as I've had with all of my downloading experiences... the application downloads on to my desktop, I click on it to open and I get a message. This time the message read "The following disk images failed to mount:StuffitExpander11.dmg... no mountable file systems." I downloaded the Ftp version but somehow I thought that should have still worked. Please tell me you have an answer!

Oh, and the adium file was downloaded as AdiumX_0.89.1.dmg. Which now that I think of it, if that "dmg" file couldn't download and the expander is "dmg" then something is blocking the dmg files..I think. Of course, you've probably already figured that out..haha
