After I download the installer, my iBook tries to open it with Microsoft Excel. The extension on the file is .bin. What application should I use to open it? What should be happening? Is the file corrupted? I'm a new Mac user and am really unfamiliar with this operating system. Thanks!

Hi,

Different type of files use the .bin extension.
In this case you need Stuffit Expander to expand it.

If you already have it drop the .bin file on Stuffit Expander or select the file, in the Finder's File menu choose "get Info" (or Cmd + i), in the info window, under the "Open With"" section choose "Stuffit Expander" then double click the file.

If you don't have Stuffit Expander, it's free and you can get it here: http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/download3.html
After installing it, the file should open in Stuffit Expander, if not, follow the previous instructions.

Don't hesitate to ask me if you have any problem.

By the way, you may want to check Adium X, "a free instant messaging application for Mac OS X that can connect to AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo, and more"
