My Question(sorry)
I want to be able to use my 30" Apple HD Cinema Display to watch TV when I am not using it for computer work.
I have Dish Network SATELLITE service that comes into a DVR decoder and produces an MPEG2 decoded digital signal. The digital signal is what I want to connect to the display.
Given that the only thing I have to work with is a DVI connector, or a firewire input, is there a device that will input that signal into my G5.
The eye500 will not work because it is for CABLE, the eye 200 is poor quality because it is analog. The Dish Network decoder only has composit audio/video or coxial cable out on it.
Is there an adaptor that I can use with my current decoder?
Thanks
I have been researching this as well, so know a bit. With the current solutions available, none will work with your Dish system unless you can find a convertor to convert your Dish output to a non-encoded format.
Good luck, Eric
I am not sure what you mean. Isn't that what the decoder does yielding a non-encoded signal. Just so I can understand. Once I get a non-encoded signal---then what?? How do I use it and how do I hook it up?
Thanks,
Tim
Hi Tim. What i will do is regurjitate the Elgato specs with a little clarification:
The EyeTV 500 accepts a coaxial cable ("The HardWare") input. The EyeTV accepts a ATCS/Clear QAM signal that is broadcast over the Coaxial cable ("The Software" so to speak).
Whatever company/or source you get this signal from does not matter as long as it comes in ATCS/Clear QAM format over coaxial cable.
Now it may be that you cannot currently acheive this with your s\DISH system, but it would bear investigation.
Good luck, Eric
