TICKET ARCHIVE -> Unable to Save Office Docs to Novell Share

Receiving the error message: "Word cannot save this document due to a naming or permissions error". Unable to save any Office docs (excel, etc.) Permissions are not the problem since we can save files from Photoshop, TextEdit etc. to the same volume. Also if you save the doc to the local machine you can drag and drop it to the network location. Novell Server with Native File Access running. Office X and Office 2004 are effected.

Thank you for using macosx.com. In response to your Novell and Office for Mac issue, I can offer this bit of advice. Be sure that you have updated Microsoft Office for Mac to the latest service packs, available from http://www.microsoft.com/mac

What version of Netware are you running? Are you connecting from Mac OS X through the Go -> Connect to Server, or through the ProSoft client?

Hello Ben,

Thanks for the reply. We're running Novell 6.5. Connecting thru the Go menu. I have since tested this with 4 machines running OS 9.2.2/Office2001, OSX 10.2.8/OfficeX, 10.3.9/OfficeX & 2004 and 10.4/Office 2004. Doesn't seem to matter what version of Office I'm running, patched or unpatched, error remains the same. We have found some mention that McAfee can cause this problem and we stopped this service on the server, but problem remains.

Have you updated your version of Native File Access on Novell Netware? The latest version is here

Remember to unload and load afptcp after the upgrade in order for it to take effect.
