Hiya!
I have the same problem as James W's archive ticket #336059: I have a macbook, a Siemens gigaset SE587 wireless router and my ISP is Tiscali. I also have a PC which is connecting via the router without any problem.
As per James' query I have been able to access the router login screen using Safari and put 'admin' and 'admin' as username and password. Usually this returns 'failed to login' but sometimes it gets me through to a setup screen.
I have thought hard about what I might be doing that could affect whether I get through that or not, I have no idea.
Anyway I have managed to get through to the setup screen a few times. I spoke to the folks at Tiscali and they said I should put in my Tiscali username and password and set it to PPPoA and submit the changes.
Just like in James' query I then get a message that Safari couldn't open the page due to a lost network connection. I have never managed to get past that stage, the Tiscali folks said they would get back to me but have not...
Strangely I was working away on something else yesterday and realised that the mac was connected to the internet. I expected it had connected to another network, but checked in Airport and it was the Tiscali one.
I also spoke to the mac support folks today and they said I need to set the router to PPPoE not PPPoA, and / or download new firmware for the router. I have tried googling for the firmware but with no success.
Do you have any advice? The thread in the archive is tantalisingly inconclusive...
Cheers,
Peter

Peter,
If the router is setup with your ISP and working, example the PC can access the Internet fine, then the router doesn't need to be setup again for use with your MacBook, unless you are using wireless and need to configure some type of settings for your wireless access to grant permission, etc.
Have you tried using FireFox to access the router? What are you trying to setup on the router anyhow? Can you configure what your trying to setup via the PC.
I have seen sometimes that some routers, the HTTP web gui for some reason isn't compatible with Safari, but seems to work fine in FireFox.
If your issue has to do with just getting your MacBook on the wireless network, I guess first are you using WEP or WPA? If so, what settings do you have that set for? Are you getting denied access, or is it connected to the wireless network, just no internet access? It might be a DHCP issue then, is your computer getting a local IP address, gateway and DNS address?

Hi Scott,
> Sorry, I guess I could have been clearer: the PC is connecting wirelessly, I'm trying to get the mac connected wirelessly too
> I tried logging into the router from the PC just now but it wouldn't let me log in
> Not tried using Firefox
> How would I know if I am using WEP or WPA, and what settings I am using?
> Just trying to get the Mac connected to the internet via the wireless router. Airport seems to be able to connect to the router, but not to the internet.
> How would I know if I can get a local IP address, gateway and DNS address?
(I'm glad I put I'm a beginner, as you can see even some of these qs are beyond me sorry)
Cheers,
Peter
