Hello there... my husband put all the wedding photos into a slideshow via iDVD and then deleted the photos from our hard drive.... can we undo the burnt DVD some way to get them back as photos so we can print them out??? If not, can we use grab and what will the quality of the prints be like??

Any thing you can suggest will help restore marital haromony!!???

Thanks.

This is a serious problem indeed. I think you have three options:

(1) When you create a slideshow in iDVD, you have the option of putting the original photo files on the DVD-ROM part of the disc. If this option was selected, then you should be able to insert the DVD into you computer & use the Finder to navigate to the DVD's folder & retrieve the photos. HOWEVER, BEFORE TRYING THIS, I SUGGEST YOU USE ANOTHER COMPUTER IN CASE IT FAILS & YOU NEED TO TRY OPTION 2 (see below).

(2) Try to retrieve them from the hard drive. Even though they are "deleted", the files are in fact still intact & the "delete" just makes the hard disk forget that they exist. To do this however, you need to get at them before any other files overwrite them. Basically, the more you use your computer, the more files will get written & the more chance there is of not ever seeing the photo files again. So, if you wish to take this tact, STOP USING YOUR COMPUTER NOW. Get a file retrieval program, or, better still, take the computer to a professional & get them to try to restore the data. This could be an expensive way to go about it, but might be the only option you have to get the original photos back.

(3) Get screenshots of the DVD. This will not give you good quality pictures, as they are scaled down to about 0.3 megapixels for the TV screen, but might be the only way you can get any pictures at all. I don't know if Grab does this, but there are other shareware programs that will. See www.versiontracker.com.

I know how precious wedding photos are, so that's why we have three copies of ours stored in two different locations.

Thanks for that advice Kwan.... thankfully they were our nieces wedding rather than ours.... We will save the originals as you advise but where is that setting...? we have iLife 04. We just have to accept that they are now only viewable on screen... sign of the times I guess....

Thanks again...

Ahhh... I can't really say for iLife 04. I use iLife 05. In '05, it is an option in the Preferences. It is also an option when you add the slideshow. It's called "Add files to DVD-ROM".
