Remember that many applications leave preferences and suport files behind even if you delete the program itself. While these usually wont hurt anything, I prefer to delete them when I know they're still lurking around.

You can look for files in two (usual) places though its always possibel that the software developer placed them somewhere else despite apples guidelines.

1) Macintosh HD:Users:YourUsername:Library:Preferences

The fastest thing to do is to do a search in this folder for the name of the application of the application you're trying to get rid of. Delete anything you find (at your own risk obviously).

2) Macintosh HD:Users:YourUsername:Library:Application Support

Same deal, look for anything with the name of the app you're trying to remove. Usually there will be a folder inside here with the name of the app. All the apps support files should be inside that folder. Thats not always the case but its the usual way recomended by Apple.

Also check the same spots inside:

- Macintosh HD:Library:Preferences

and

- Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support

Other than that I would say:

1) when trying to delete make sure you empty your trash if you really want it gone

2) Restart your computer. Some apps (Quicksilver may be one) only look for deletions at startup so you may need to restart to get it to wake up.
