Hi,
December 28, 2005 about uninstalling mac os x 10.0.4.
I see next to my question is 'pending'.
What does that mean?
I really need help, as I need to print some documents and my printer will not print and I cannot reintall that.
so I really want to get back to mac os 9.2.2.
I did notice in my hd that I can reinstall mac os 9.2.2. But, unsure if I should. Scared I will lose all my information.
If I can without losing information I will do it.
Kind of desperate.
I'm not a computer wiz.

Here is the text from the previous question and I have closed it in favor of this one...
I installed Mac X 10.0.4 onto my imac about a week ago. Since, I have nothing but problems.
First, I can only use Internet Explorer ( 5 ) from Mac os 9.2.2.
Second, when I turn on the computer, either from a restart of shutdown I am greeted with a blinking question mard. This just happened over an hour ago. It took me that long just to finally get the computer to reinstall Mac X 10.0.4.
Third, I cannot use my printer and need to print.
So, since I am having all of these problems I would like to know if I can get back to Mac Os 9.2.2 where I am comfortable and can figure out how not to have so many problems.
However, I have work I do not want to lose if I can get back to Mac Os 9.2.2.
Or would upgrading to the next level of Mac Os X be better. Although, I don't know what the next level would be.
I am not a computer expert and am not familiar with all the tech language. But, if given really good step-by-step directions I can follow them well most of the time. I am a little computer literate.
I have enough of the 'Dummies' books. But, unfortunately, they are not that detailed. I always seem to have a problem that is not fully covered or not at all. And the troubleshooting information is usually not that good. Too brief.
I think they should be more of a step-by-step guide for the almost computer illiterate.
Sometime they are helpful.
I have ugraded my computer before ( from the internet ) and have had no problems at all.
Now I am having a stressful time dealing with Mac Os X 10.0.4.
Also, I have read that Internet Explorer will no longer be available after the new year. If this is true what browser do I use? Is it good? Easy to use? Free? If not, is it worth it?
I would appreciate help so I get get back to get out of my stressful situation in Mac X 10.0.4/
One last question. I have tried to save my work on disks, but had not luck. When I put the disk in I got a message box that said I needed to unlock disk. I had no idea how. There were no instructions. Are there disk just for Macs?
Thanks.

OK. First of all you should back up everything that's important to you before you reinstall 9.2.2 or update to OS X or anything else of this nature. That way you needn't wory about losing your important data. Backup to a different hard drive, a flash drive, CDs, ZIP disks or any other medium (network, tape, etc.).
Having done that you can safely reinstall OS 9.2.2 to get back on the air.
It sounds as though something went wrong with your installation of QS X - I have no idea what but that doesn't really matter now. Again, before you (re)install OS X (after reinstalling OS 9.2.2) make sure you have a relevant backup of your ENTIRE system as well as your important data. before proceeding.
Note that you CAN NOT have both Classic with OS 9.2.2 AND OS X on the same volume. If you want to have both available to you you must have separate volumes or partition a single volume into an OS 9 partition and an OS X partition. If you want to go to OS X without Classic then this issue doesn't matter.
Before you begin any installation you should boot from the appropriate install disc and use Disk Utility to verify and, if necessary, repair your hard drive. Then proceed with the installation and let it run UNINTERRUPTED until it completes. Then, in the case of OS X, use Disk Utility to repair permissions after the installation is finished. Follow this procedure before and after each installation or upgrade as you will need to use Software Update in OS X to get up to the latest software version.
Also, I would suggest that you install Tiger as your version of OS X as it is more current and more stable than any previous versions of OS X. This is just a reccommendation though. I'm not suggesting that you go buy something new if you already have an earlier version of OS X. Any version of it is a wonderful system.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
I feel much better.
I went to wal-mart today to get some disks to save info. on my computer the sales clerk told me that I need a cd burner.
Do I need a cd burner on my computer to put important data on it? I don't have one. Couldn't find one on my computer.
I tried once before on another computer and I got a message that said I needed to unlock the disk.
Not having any idea how, I obviously couldn't put information on it to keep it safe.
I went to wal-mart today to get some disks to save infor on my computer the sales clerk told me that I need a cd burner.
I am using an imac. when I purchased it, it was already a 9.2.
If I cannot use any disks can I email the information and then when I have reinstalled 9.2 put it back on my desktop?
As you probably can tell, I am not very computer literate.
( I am trying and learning ).
What exactly is booting/rebooting? Installing/reinstalling?
I really appreciate your help. Thanks.

OK. It sounds like you don't have an iMac with a CD R/W. That means that you can't write to any CD. If your valuable data is small enough you can certainly email it to yourself.
If your iMac has a Firewire port (check the documentation that came with it) then you can purchase an external Firewire CD R/W for the purposes of burning CDs. But it sounds to me like that might be more than you are bargaining for - good ones run from ~$200.
Let me suggest the following...
1) Send yourself your important data.
2) Reinstall OS 9.2.2. Put the OS 9.2.2 CD in your machine and hold down the "C" key on your keyboard while you restart. This will boot your machine from the CD and give you the opportunity to install OS 9.2.2 on it. Read the readme/before-you-install files and follow the directions.
3) Retrieve your email and save the important data.
4) You should be good to go.
Regarding Internet Explorer Microsoft has announced that they will stop supporting it on the Mac after 2005. This means that there will be no new versions of it nor will their be any more updates to it but that DOES NOT affect the version you already have - it will continue to run as it always has but sooner or later the Internet will outstrip its capabilities and you will have to move on. There are already some WEB sites that don't work properly with the Mac version of IE. There are a number of free WEB browsers available from Version Tracker (
www.versiontracker.com). Mozilla is a very nice one (
www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/3016).
If you live near an Apple store I would suggest that you visit it and take along the documentation that came with your iMac. Talk to them about what it would take to upgrade your iMac for OS X. Since yours came with OS 9.2.2 installed it predates OS X which is already 3 years old so don't be surprised if they suggest that you buy a new computer that comes with OS X already installed.
