I'm guessing that you have some files that SHOULD be image files, but now show a Unix executable icon. Am I right?
what type image are the files? JPEG? bitmap? TIFF?

You should be able to open most image files in your Preview app, or in Quicktime. Try dragging the file to Preview's icon, and see what happens.

You can also download and use GraphicConverter, which you can find at versiontracker.com
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11559
This is one of the best applications ever for the Mac, if you do anything with graphics files.
If your files will open this way, you can do a change for these files, by selecting one file, Get Info for that file, and choose the Open With category, click on the dropdown, and choose the application that you want to use, Then click the Change All button. That should take care of that.
