Description:
Just got an old (68040) mac, and am trying to come up to
speed. Have networking working, now wondering what magic
I do to these files I'm fetching from the net. They are,
I believe, binhex encoded when found as filename.hqx. And
often there as a .sit suffix just before the .hqx. How
do I arrange to 'unbinhex' and 'unsit' these?

This machine (at which I'm typing) is a PC clone running
Linux. But the Mac's connected to it via Ethernet. I'd
be happy to answer the occasional Linux question as a way
to thank you for answering this question of mine.

Hello Wally,
The program you need is stuffit expander. It is the mac all-in-one decompression software. Although, you might have a run around because you need a decompression software to get the decompression software. You can try this site to download stuffit expander. Hopefully you have a program that can a macbinary file. This webpage might help

For clarification, people interchange .hqx with .sithqx both are binhex files.

Hope that helps if not please e-mail me,
-Doug
